English Language for Tourism Teacher

Fixed Term

You are expected to deliver classes on the client’s premises i.e. hotel, tour operator  office, for up to 30 hours a week. Good organization and effective planning are essential. However, you should be prepared to work in an environment that requires a degree of flexibility, i.e. be flexible and willing to adapt to sudden changes. You will be responsible for planning and delivering high-quality, English Language lessons to adults working within the tourism sector. Lessons will include a mix of engaging General and Tourism English activities and will help students develop accuracy, fluency and confidence in spoken and written English. An excellent approach to customer care  is essential.


  • Prepare for and teach English language courses to a high standard, as assessed by the Academic Manager
  • To follow the prescribed syllabus and content of the courses as relevant to the learning group
  • Exploit every opportunity for students to learn English both inside and outside the centre
  • In conjunction with the Academic Manager, plan and develop short pronunciation / business email writing workshops. These will be short sessions which help students develop their skills in this area
  • At the start of each week and every lesson, ensure that clear learning outcomes are presented to the group Contribute to the development, evaluation, and improvement of English language courses, materials and related services
  • Actively engage in professional development and performance management to ensure the quality and high standards in teaching and learning exceed the clients’ expectations and maintain LAL’s position at the forefront of best ELT practices
  • Submit to observation by Academic Manager and / or their appointed deputy
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation in sufficient detail as advised by the Project Manager
  • To take responsibility for the overall presentation of the learning environment at all times
  • To make use of all the available technology to support teaching and enhance learning
  • To attend meetings via Skype or similar when requested to do so
  • To protect the property and equipment of LAL and the  centre
  • Carry out any other reasonable duties as requested by the Project Manager or Academic Manager

 All LAL Language Centres Staff must:

  • Commit to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all course participants at all times
  • Provide the best possible language learning, social and cultural experience for the students
  • Provide a high-level of customer care to students and all those associated with them
  • Work cooperatively with both LAL Language Centres colleagues and host centre staff
  • Follow the guidelines in Staff Handbooks regarding the standards expected in your job and how to deliver them Maintain Confidentiality
  • Complete all documentation as required
  • Carry out directions from Head Office and comply with all legal and professional organisation requirements
  • Be of smart appearance, appropriate to the role
  • Act in a thoroughly professional manner at all times to uphold the good reputation of LAL Language Centres

Person Specification


  • CELTA, Trinity TESOL
  • Trinity Diploma TESOL, Cambridge DELTA or MA in Linguistics/TESOL
  • First degree (Business, Tourism and Hospitality related
  • Corporate/Business English qualification

Proof of qualifications


  • Experience in designing and delivering ESP and professional communication skills courses, particularly English for Hospitality and Tourism and Business English
  • Experience of working in the hospitality/tourism industry
  • A professional business background
  • Working with international adult students

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Good administrative skills
  • Ability to work comfortably in a fast paced, intensive environment
  • Commitment to producing interactive tasks and activities tailored to student needs
  • Able to exploit learning technologies to enhance lessons and facilitate learning
  • High level of competence in ICT
  • Able to create weekly Schemes of Work to meet student needs

Salary: A weekly rate for £450.00 gross based on 35 hours per week
